Hamlet Prince of Sweden
Theatrical comedy
Age suitability: 14+ (Guideline)
CREATED AND INTERPRETED BY: Nike Redding & Tom Corradini
A theatre company is ready to stage Hamlet — Shakespeare’s most
complex and famous work. Opening night arrives, but only two actors
show up. The rest of the cast? Nowhere to be found.
The show must go on.
Two performers throw themselves into the greatest tragedy in
literature — which very quickly turns into a clownesque nightmare.
We are at the court of Sweden.
No, we are at the court of Denmark.
And we are truly in trouble.
DIRECTOR’S NOTES: Hamlet is Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy —
and also the most intimidating. Hours of archaic language,
intricate plots, philosophical dilemmas. For many people, it’s a
masterpiece they’ve never dared to approach.
I wanted to create a show that tears down that wall. A comedy
that speaks of madness, betrayal and death — the essential
ingredients of Hamlet — but makes them accessible, funny,
and deeply human. My goal is simple: to leave the audience
curious. Curious enough to one day open the original play
and discover how extraordinary it truly is.

FringeReview – HIDDEN GEM
“a chaotic deconstruction that transforms the world’s greatest tragedy into acomedy that feels dangerously, thrillingly alive.”

“It skirts around, rather than dives into the endless complexities of Hamlet, but Hamlet’s a rather difficult play, closer to literature than theatre if we’re thinking in a very ‘well made’ manner. And as an act of theatre Hamlet: Prince of Sweden excels. Warmly funny, compellingly performed. ”

All plays written by Tom Corradini are published on Amazon.
